Dinner Is Airborne, 3,009 and Counting

Zipline’s newest market, and the public record behind the fleet.

Happy Friday folks -

Zipline announced that its drone delivery service is now available in Austin, Texas.

The “First Flight” program gives 5,000 residents in the Round Rock neighborhood access.

The drone delivery company is attracting early adopters with promotions such as,

  • $10 off orders for the first three orders

  • No service or delivery fees

  • Access to special Zipline perks, including facility tours

  • A chance to get official Zipline swag

It’s all about building a habit. h/t Influence

We Watch the Fleet

Zipline is private. It doesn’t publish a fleet count.

The U.S. aircraft registry does. One day at a time. Then it overwrites itself.

Marble Institute of Technology keeps every copy.

This morning’s file: 3,009 Zipline aircraft.

On March 19, our first capture, it was 1,431. Up 110%.

Three more numbers from the file:

432. Registration numbers already reserved for Zipline aircraft that aren’t registered yet. That’s the next wave, visible to the public.

406 of 429. Zipline aircraft that were in the public file before the Uber deal was announced. We saw the data move first.

4 in 5. Visible U.S. delivery drones registered to Zipline.

Meanwhile, the price tag. $7.6 billion in January. About $20 billion in reported talks in September. Up 163%.

The fleet is the habit, at scale.
