Howdy folks,
Fall is a time to give thanks.
I’m grateful for the opportunity ahead of me.
There has never been a better time to build. One person. One laptop. AI.
That's an institution in 2026.
So today, I'm making it official.
Welcome to the Marble Institute of Technology.
Not to be confused with the other Institute of Technology. We have fewer Nobel laureates - more eagles.
Why Marble
I first visited Marble, Colorado earlier this year. The town doesn't feel real. No gas station. One restaurant. Right in the heart of the Rockies.
It took me back to childhood. Days in the mountains, out of range, off the network.
I'm grateful for Starlink. But instant connectivity costs us something. A little innocence.
In Marble, I don't think about AI. The Fed. The tape. Rates. I'm in the moment, swallowed whole by the size of the place.
The name is a promise to protect that feeling. For me, and for the next generation.
What The Institute Is
This Institute started as a name. A brand to write under. And everyone in Aspen has an Institution.
Why not me.
You see - this is the education I always wanted. What I want to learn, how I want to learn it. Out loud, in public.
We live in the greatest time of all time. AI lets one person build what once took a team. Things that were once a dream are now a heads-down weekend.
Great power. Great responsibility.
It's easy to get lost in the sauce. Too many ideas. Too many tools. Not enough focus.
A friend and former colleague gave me the cure. Got an idea? Build a landing page. See who bites.
So I did.
Caravan
A few weeks back, my friends and I hiked from Aspen to Crested Butte. Fall colors at full blaze. A beautiful trek.
And a logistical headache. Two cars had to be waiting in Crested Butte when we came off the trail.
We paid a friend of a friend to run the shuttle. I won't say how much. Enough to send me looking for a better way.
If only we'd linked up with a Crested Butte local headed our direction.
That's Caravan. Carpooling for the outdoors.
The bar: 500 signups before year-end. Go, or no go, come Jan 1.
I'm prospecting the old-fashioned way. Posters at trailheads, coffee shops, gear shops. The classics never go out of style.
