Today I visited my friend Barry Stout at his 1,000-acre ranch outside of Newcastle, Colorado.
I met Barry through the Devereux Polo Cup he hosts at Stout Ranch every spring.
The visit was twofold - I want land, livestock, horses - but it should be self-sustaining. Cash flow positive.
Barry has learned this skill over decades of ranching and playing professional polo. I can learn a lot through sweat + osmosis.
I also think about how drones can serve a property like this.
One man - 0 ranch hands - 1,000 acres to care for.
Barry is the best - but he can’t know everything and be everywhere at once.
I’d love to provide him and other large landowners with “eyes in the sky.”
Folks - we’re operating in the Wild West.
And private landowners may be the path of least resistance at this stage of the Aerial Economy.
I’ve found too much bureaucracy with the federally owned airports for us to disrupt the industry responsibly.
Zig when they zag.
Perhaps the Aerial Economy is most likely to flourish in places we least expect. A private ranch. The golf course. The “flyover states” VCs love to ignore.
I understand the hoopla about aviation innovation in military + defense.
To each their own.
But this is what gets me Rile’d up. Solving problems without creating new ones.
